Russia's Sberbank ranks 82nd among world's largest banks '05

Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, ranked 82nd among the world's largest banks
in 2005, in accordance with the ratings of The Banker magazine, Russian business
daily Vedomosti said Tuesday.
The Banker is part of the Financial Times Group.
The Financial Times is also one of the shareholders of Business News Media,
the publisher of Vedomosti.
Sberbank also ranked 17 among the 25 largest banks in Central and Eastern
Europe, according to The Banker's ratings. In 2004 Sberbank was 138th in the
Banker's ratings, Vedomosti said. Below are other Russian banks included in The
Banker's ratings of the world' largest banks in 2005, as published by Vedomosti:

and Austria's Raiffeisenbank banking group, have also been included in The
Banker's rating, Vedomosti said, without providing their places.
The Banker rated the following Russian banks using financial results for
2004: MDM Bank, Bank of Moscow, Vnesheconombank, National Reserve Bank, UralSib
Bank, Citibank, AK Bars Bank, Bank Petrocommerce, Internationals Moscow Bank,
Raiffeisenbank Austria and Zenit Bank, Vedomosti said.
The major gauge for The Banker's ratings is first tier capital, which is
charter capital plus undistributed profit.
